Ominous Solstice Signals Challenges

Solstice 06212017 90-Degree Dial

Today marks a particularly ominous solstice.

In and of itself, of course, a solstice isn’t especially threatening. It’s not even very rare.

The summer solstice is one of two dates in the annual solar cycle when the Sun seems to stand still.

In the Northern Hemisphere it marks the first day of Summer.

As the “longest day of the year” it provides the greatest amount of daylight compared to the hours of darkness in this 24-hour period.

It’s a time for ritual and celebration, including a gathering at Stonehenge.

But in the Southern Hemisphere it’s the beginning of Winter.

Gann Watched The Solstice Carefully

For traders, especially for those who follow in the footsteps of W. D. Gann, the solstice marks a critical turning point in the annual progress of the markets.

It’s a time when there’s a high likelihood of trend reversals.

That means it can bring big trading opportunities.

And, as I’ve noted in a previous blog post, W. D. Gann gave it special attention each year.

An Ominous Solstice Event

From an astrological perspective, however, not all solstices are created equal.

They are all important turning points, of course. But in each case, we can examine the planetary impact of the solar alignment at the time of the solstice.

And that’s where we start to find challenges associated with this current solstice.

It does appear to be an ominous solstice, indeed.

Consider the position of the solstice itself.

By definition, it’s on the cardinal axis, at 0 degrees Aries and its fourth-harmonic equivalents.

But today’s solstice does more than that.

It also activates Venus in the eighth harmonic.

And even more importantly, it’s exactly aligned with the transiting Saturn/Hades midpoint.

Ominous Solstice 06212017 90-Degree Dial

The ominous Solstice for June 2017 on the 90-degree dial shows the activation of Venus and the Saturn/Hades midpoint.

That alignment alone is enough to make this an ominous solstice.

Just note what Alfred Witte had to say about the Saturn/Hades combination in his classic book on Rules for Planetary Pictures. He said it indicated:

“Poverty. Hard luck. To be separated through accidents, or unemployment. Melancholy. Trouble. Sadness. The alien. Refugees. Serious obstacles. Severe sickness or unemployment of long duration. Enemies. Enmity. Serious loss. Prison. Epidemics. Illness restrictions. Ugly habits. Matters that are either put off or never finished. To be impoverished by sickness. Isolation through sickness. Damages to the crops.”

There’s certainly not much cause for optimism in that description!

But we can refine our understanding of what we can expect in the aftermath of this ominous solstice if we consider each of the activations of that Saturn/Hades midpoint.

Venus Implications

The eighth-harmonic Venus trigger of the Saturn/Hades midpoint at the time of the solstice is an indication of poverty, filth, illicit unions, and dirty alliances. It’s associated with premature births, miscarriages, and serious abdominal diseases. Personal interactions connected with this planetary picture can range from ineffective service to extremely unpleasant associations with vulgar or unscrupulous people.

The Aries Point Trigger

With the alignment of the Saturn/Hades midpoint along the cardinal axis of the zodiac, there’s an emphasis on the likelihood of plagues, epidemics and famine in the months following the solstice. The resulting loss of life can be so devastating that it could become difficult to identify the dead. Strangers, fugitives and refugees are in the spotlight. There’s a big potential for massive job layoffs and an increase in unemployment.

The Role of the Sun

The solar activation of the Saturn/Hades midpoint signals the potential for physical frailty and illness for prominent men in key positions. There’s also the possibility for grief and losses through rejection, a sudden loss of position, or arrest and imprisonment.

In the aggregate, then, this ominous solstice represents the potential for a major challenge to established political structures, to community consciousness, and to the general welfare of the world’s populations.

If we want to cling to high-minded ideas and lofty ideals in an effort to articulate a new state of consciousness in social structures and geopolitical opportunities, we need to prepare ourselves.

This ominous solstice is stern reminder of the serious work that lies ahead.

Kronos Helps Push Stocks Lower

Kronos did its bit this week.

We had been looking to this transneptunian planet to amplify the impact of the Spring Equinox.

The equinox, of course, as we’ve often pointed out, is a key event in W. D. Gann’s reckoning. Over the years, it has proven quite reliable in signaling market turns.

As we approached this key date, we alerted our members at FinancialCyclesWeekly.com to be cautious.

An End To The Trump Rally

And, as we pointed out in a recent post, Gann was certainly proven right earlier this week. Stock prices plunged, right on schedule.

It brought an abrupt end to the Trump Rally. But the plunge in prices didn’t stop with the equinox effect.

Kronos made sure of that!

We highlighted the Kronos potential in this week’s newsletter. It was published prior to the equinox, by the way.

Kronos FCW 3-19-17

Kronos in the March 19 newsletter.

Here’s what we shared with our readers then:

As we move into the trading week just ahead, we not only have the key Gann signal of the equinox on March 20, but also a direct station by the transneptunian factor Kronos on March 23. This powerful outer planet phenomenon could reinforce the equinox impact, especially if we see a correction getting underway.

Kronos is associated with great heights, both literally and metaphorically. It’s the best of the best, the top of the skyscraper, and the person in charge. It’s also connected with trading tops. So when Kronos changes direction, we need to be alert for potential changes in market direction. too. While Kronos direct stations can often interrupt a rally with a brief period of declining prices or trading congestion, they don’t necessarily bring extreme bearishness.

In this case, however, the Kronos direct station may be especially disruptive. The station activates both the Aries/Mercury and Aries/Zeus midpoints. There are thus likely to be far-reaching communications that trigger wars or other hostilities, in spite of efforts by some leaders to mend fences and promote harmony and community (Jupiter/Cupido).

The Kronos trigger of the Chiron/Uranus midpoint is also significant. It suggests that while market disruption can be challenging, chaos can also offer potentially profitable opportunities to savvy astro-traders!

Kronos Effects In and Out of the Markets

The triggering of hostilities was evident, of course – not only in the streets of London, but also in the halls of Congress.

But for astro-traders, the Kronos station was even more interesting.

As this chart for the S&P 500 shows, stocks had been trying to push higher on Thursday. Following a mid-day sell-off, the index was still in positive territory for the day. A second price surge was underway, but trading was getting a little congested.

That’s when the Kronos station hit, about an hour and a half before the closing bell. It not only put an end to the renewed bullishness; it drove prices even lower. The index finished the day with a net loss, followed by another down day on Friday.

A Transneptunian Webinar

The timing of this planetary station couldn’t have been better.

Following Thursday’s market close, I had just enough time to grab a screen shot of the day’s trading action. I added it to my slides for a webinar that was starting an hour after the closing bell.

As it turned out, there were a total of 112 slides for this presentation. It was pretty massive!

The webinar provided detailed information about all eight transneptunian factors. It highlighted specific trading and market analysis strategies to enhance trading with transneptunian timing.

We also got great questions and comments from the webinar participants.

It all added up to an incredibly enriching advanced astro-trading training session.

We recorded the entire webinar session on “How You Can Win With Transneptunian Market Timing” – including the questions and answers at the end.

The video of the event is a full 110 minutes. It’s packed with detailed information, trading charts, and a whole lot more.

It also includes a give-away of a free 161-page trading publication (you get the download link along with the webinar recording).

If you’re interested in the power of the transneptunians in astro-trading – or even if you’re just looking for an extra edge in your market timing – I highly recommend that you check out this in-depth training.

Gann Gets The Equinox Right Again!

Gann got it right again.

As I’ve been reminding my students and our members here at FinancialCyclesWeekly.com, W. D. Gann identified the equinox as a particularly sensitive time for the markets.

We talked about it at length during our March 1 webinar for our Gold-Plus Elite members – they’re the group of astro-traders who get regular guidance about current trading strategies.

We meet for regular forecast webinars, and share a weekly conference call to discuss the specific stock picks and market timing for optimum trading results.

Staying Tuned In To Gann

I’ve been making sure that this group has been tuned in to the important Gann date.

Gann Equinox

W. D. Gann and the Equinox Featured in FinancialCyclesWeekly

We also ran a cover story in the FinancialCyclesWeekly newsletter on March 12. It focuses specifically on W. D. Gann and the importance of the upcoming equinox.

“Keep your powder dry!” we advised our readers.

“Our back-testing of the past 34 years of market history shows this equinox typically triggering a short-term pull-back or consolidation in the S&P, followed by an aggressive rally,” we noted. “This year, however, we may see a sharper decline in stock prices just after the equinox.”

The Equinox Results

The equinox was yesterday, on March 20.

And, just as we expected, the selling pressure in the market started then – right on schedule.

The sell-off accelerated today, just in case there was any question about the validity of Gann’s approach.

How much did it sell off?

The Dow Jones Industrial Average plunged 237.85 points, off 1.14% for the day.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 Index lost 29.45, for a decline today of 1.24%.

It was clearly a big enough drop to command attention. It also called the Trump Rally into question.

And with a Kronos station coming up later this week, there may be even more selling ahead.

Once again, we’re all reminded of just how important Gann and his innovative insights are for us in our astro-trading today!

The Donald Trump Election and W. D. Gann

Rally After Trump Election

It’s just been 24 days since the Donald Trump election as president of the United States.

We still haven’t completely assimilated its consequences.

The Trump election surprised the political pundits, to say the least.

We weren’t 100 percent certain about the outcome prior to election day on November 8th.

But we certainly weren’t as surprised by the Trump election as many of the television talking heads seemed to be.

After all, following the lead of top mundane astrologer Nick Campion, we had examined the transits to the natal horoscopes of the presidential candidates on inauguration day.

Trump Election Results Show At The Inauguration

Nick says that since the exact time of the new president taking office is specified by law, the inauguration chart, set for noon on January 20, 2017, is the best guide to an election’s outcome.

The transits to Hillary Clinton’s natal chart on that date aren’t particularly horrible. They aren’t particularly outstanding, either.

Trump election inauguration

The ultimate outcome of the Trump election is shown on Inauguration Day.

But Donald J. Trump’s transits are pretty spectacular.

In fact, they clearly define the expectation for a Trump election.

At the time of the Oath of Office, Venus will be in a 150-degree quincunx to Donald Trump’s natal Jupiter. That signals a particularly joyful time, although it may lack fulfillment at some level.

Venus will also be in opposition to Trump’s natal conjunction of the transneptunian factors Cupido and Apollon. This suggests a time of harmonious union with many people, with an emphasis on oratory and vocal skill.

Perhaps most importantly, however, transiting Jupiter will be trine Donald Trump’s natal Sun.

Alfred Witte describes the Sun/Jupiter combination as signifying “the cheerful man” or “fortunate rich man”.

That pretty much nails the outcome of the Trump election.

The Stock Market Reaction To The Trump Election

As the news of the Donald Trump election began to break in the early morning hours of November 9, stock market futures began to plunge. But that nose-dive didn’t last long.

Rally After Trump Election

The market rally after the Trump election continued for weeks before topping out at the New Moon.

By the time the markets officially opened at 9:30 Wednesday morning, stocks had bounced back.

They started a spectacular rally that went on for weeks.

In fact, it lasted until the next New Moon, a stressful event with an impact both in and out of the markets.

Again, this was a surprising development for many pundits, who had anticipated a market crash in the event of a Trump election.

But students of W. D. Gann weren’t surprised.

Gann’s Comments Applied To The Trump Election

In his 1923 book Truth of the Stock Tape, W. D. Gann specifically addressed the question of “After-Election Rallies” in the stock market.

“When any important election, either presidential or otherwise, take place,” Gann wrote, “and the market has pretty well discounted it, but the general public through the country figure that the event is favorable, they, of course, send in buying orders the next day after election, and stocks are strong until this demand is satisfied. It will always pay you to wait two or three days after election and see whether the market continues to move in the same direction after election as it did before.”

To add perspective current to his day, Gann mentioned the 1912 election of Woodrow Wilson. (As a side note, there’s an interesting comparison of the Trump election with that of Wilson by Bloomberg commentator Jonathan Bernstein.)

“Stocks were strong the first day after Wilson was elected the first time,” W. D. Gann noted, “but the decline started promptly after public buying orders had been filled. Always be careful of buying on top of after-election rallies. In the same way, if stocks open off and decline the first two or three days after election, be careful about selling them, as it may be only the public selling because they are scared and the insiders may support the market and start an advance.”

Good advice!

Unseen Forces & W. D. Gann

I was just re-reading a passage about unseen forces from W. D. Gann, the pioneering astro-trader.

“The man who invented wireless and radio imagined he could do it,” Gann wrote, “and he did it. This is the greatest proof of the unseen forces being the most powerful.

“You cannot see the air waves or sound waves, but you can hear them and you know they work.

“You cannot see the Divine force that is in the air, but it is there and all powerful, and will work miracles for you if you will have faith and put it into action.”

Unseen Forces In Radio Waves

W. D. Gann knew about the unseen forces in radio wave propagation.

Benefiting From Unseen Forces

W. D. Gann not only knew about unseen forces.

He relied on them in his private spiritual life.

He also used them extensively in his market analysis and trading.

The most powerful of these unseen forces was what he called the Law of Vibration.

The Law of Vibration was extremely important to Gann and his methods, which is why it’s one of the key topics that we cover in our new course on Gann Plan Trading Success 101.

This new course is designed to give you a solid foundation in Gann studies without the stress, the uncertainty, or the expense that most other Gann programs have.

Is Money Really The Problem?

The cost of some Gann study programs can be pretty intimidating, of course.

But for many traders who want to learn W. D. Gann’s techniques, the money involved isn’t really a problem.

Instead, they’re much more concerned about getting off to the right start.

After all, when you’re dealing with the impact of unseen forces, it’s easy to get a little confused.

Your biggest question may simply be “where do I begin?”

That’s exactly why we’ve introduced this new program in Gann Plan Trading Success 101. It will help you get the right start in the fastest possible time.

You can get the details on this unique approach to learning W.D. Gann’s powerful trading tools and techniques at:

https://gannplan.leadpages.co/gpts101vsl02-277/

You’re going to learn a lot and have a lot of fun, too. And on top of that, this course will open up unseen forces that can completely transform your trading results.

Mastering Gann Can Take Some Time

Here’s a quick question for you about the process of mastering Gann trading.

If you really want to become a Gann expert, how long does it take?

Could you do it in six months?

Maybe.

But you’d probably do much better if you allowed a few years at least for the process of mastering Gann and his ideas.

Mastering Gann 6 to Life

Exactly how long will you spend mastering Gann?

After all, it’s kind of complicated stuff.

Mastering Gann definitely isn’t something you can run through in a weekend.

It could even take a lifetime.

A Realistic Goal For Mastering Gann

But the amount of time that really makes sense is totally up to you.

A lot depends on how actively you’re working toward mastering Gann by using his ideas and techniques in your own trading.

If you use Gann frequently, the path toward mastery can get a lot shorter.

But even then, it can take a while.

In my personal experience, for example, I’ve used Gann concepts on an almost daily basis for the past 30 years.

And during that time I’ve also spent a lot of time reading and studying Gann material of one sort or another.

Some of it has been enormously helpful as I’ve refined my own approach to the markets and worked toward creating reliable astro-trading techniques.

At other times I’ve felt like I’ve been spinning my wheels as I struggled with mastering Gann concepts and their practical application.

Deciding To Make Changes

That varied experience over the past three decades has led me to develop the new training program in Gann Plan Trading Success.

It’s a clear break from my previous patterns – although I’ve written about Gann from time to time in the past, I’ve basically kept my Gann studies to myself.

But the new class in Gann Plan Trading Success changes all that.

It’s an effort to clarify and communicate what I’ve learned during 30 years of Gann study.

And, as this video explains, it’s also designed to provide an intense experience that lays a solid Gann foundation in a hurry.

The aim here, of course, is to inspire and encourage you to dig into the process of mastering Gann more completely.

And our new class in Gann Plan Trading Success is meant to support that process in a way that gives you a firm footing as you explore new territory.

That may seem a little scary, but it’s also incredibly rewarding, and I’m truly delighted and excited to be sharing the adventure.

I hope you’ll join us for the class. You’ll find information at:

https://gannplan.leadpages.co/gpts101open/

How You Can Get Quick Gann Results

One of the great things about the new course in Gann Plan Trading Success is how fast it can help you get real results.

The whole class is just four weeks. You can get the unique information from the course, get your key questions answered, and get right down to applying the W. D. Gann methods so you can see the results in your own trading without delay.

Will this class make you a Gann expert?

Of course not.

But it will help you get up to speed very rapidly, so you can using W. D. Gann techniques in your forecasting and trading without any time wasted.

You’ll love the results you see.

You’re going to experience rapid progress.

It will probably stretch your imagination so much that you’ll start to see the opportunities in the markets in a totally new and different way.

You’re going to love the excitement of seeing unlimited possibilities for your life.

And yeah, you’ll probably wind up wanting to know even more about W. D. Gann and his remarkable approach to the markets.

You’re going to love that, too!

What Is It About Gann Trading?

Whenever you mention Gann trading, it inevitably raises some eyebrows.

W. D. Gann and his work in the markets are controversial, to say the least.

W. D. Gann Trading

W. D. Gann and his unique approach to the markets became the basis for modern Gann trading.

Some people think that W. D. Gann was a world-class genius.

They point to his incredible success in the markets, not only in providing pin-point forecasts that specifically nailed exact prices at exact future times, but also in managing to to a considerable stake in the markets in a relatively short period of time.

But there are others who don’t agree.

They are the ones who insist that Gann was nothing but a fraud and a charlatan.

They’ll point out that because W. D. Gann didn’t leave a fortune to his heirs, his claims to success in the markets should be viewed with a lot of suspicion.

They’ll tell you to stay far, far away from Gann trading.

In fact, they’ll tell you that Gann trading techniques are completely bogus.

The claims and counter-claims never seem to end.

Getting to the Bottom of Gann Trading

It’s true.

Sometimes just mentioning W. D. Gann and the methods and philosophies of Gann trading can be enough to get you into an argument.

But even so, Gann’s influence and methodologies are nevertheless important, especially in the world of astro-trading.

That’s why I’ve made up my mind to do my best to ignore all the arguments and endless pros and cons.

Instead, I’ve decided to respond to the many requests I’ve been getting for clear, easy-to-understand information about how Gann trading really works.

I figure that if you learn a little bit about what makes Gann trading tick, you’ll be in a much better position to make up your own mind.

So I’m getting down to work in putting together some new training tools for Gann trading.

And to help move the process along, I’ve put together a quick survey.

You can play a part in the development process – and take a definitive step toward getting the Gann information you want and need – by responding right now:

W. D. Gann on Groundhog Day

,W. D. Gann had the right idea when he paid attention to Groundhog Day in an oblique kind of way.

After all, Groundhog Day is a curious bit of American folklore.

The 1993 “Groundhog Day” movie with Bill Murray created a cultural archetype. When you mention Groundhog Day, many people immediately connect the name with the notion of endlessly-repeating events.

I guess you could say that it’s like deja vu all over again….

Not Just Deja Vu

But Groundhog Day is actually a long-observed American holiday.

One that W. D. Gann knew quite well.

It had its U.S. origins with German settlers in southeastern and central Pennsylvania in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Groundhog

W. D. Gann was less concerned about this furry critter than he was about the planetary dynamics of a key calendar point.

According to the traditions associated with this annual event on Februrary 2, if it’s cloudy when a groundhog emerges from its burrow on that date, spring will come early.

If it’s sunny, on the other hand, the groundhog will see its shadow and return to hibernation as winter weather persists for six more weeks.

February 2 is also the annual date of Candlemas and of the festival of Imbolc in the Celtic calendar. More important for astro-traders, it also marks the midpoint of the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox in the northern hemisphere.

W. D. Gann and the Eighth Harmonic

It thus has particular significance as an eighth-harmonic calendar point in W. D. Gann’s market calculations.

As many students of this pioneering astro-trader’s work understand, W. D. Gann deeply understood the significance of market timing. He knew that paying attention to the calendar was one of the keys to connecting price and time for more profitable trading results.

To that end, W. D. Gann focused on the dates of the solar cardinal ingresses throughout the year:

As the Sun moves into the zodiac sign of Aries, we have the vernal equinox, the start of Spring in the northern hemisphere.

With the Sun’s entry into Cancer, the summer solstice ushers in another change of season.

The Fall Equinox comes with the passage of the Sun into Libra.

And the first day of Winter in the northern hemisphere comes when the Sun moves into the zodiac sign of Capricorn.

W. D. Gann’s Innovation

But W. D. Gann took things even farther.

In working with his calendar calculations and market forecasting, W. D. Gann also paid close attention to the timing midpoints between those cardinal solar ingresses.

UranusPlutoFeb2-W.D.Gann

Uranus and Pluto are approaching a fresh waxing square alignment on Groundhog Day in 2016.

This year, however, Groundhog Day has special significance for astro-traders. Uranus and Pluto will revisit their waxing square on that date; it’s an alignment that had seven exact iterations between 2012 and 2015. Although the two planets don’t make a precise 90-degree alignment this time around, it’s worth paying attention to the market reaction.

S&P UranusPluto

This chart shows the average price movements of the S&P 500 Index for 15 days before and after the seven previous Uranus/Pluto waxing squares.

While various markets reacted to those Uranus/Pluto configurations in different ways, the manifestations outside of the markets were consistent with previous Uranus/Pluto fourth-harmonic influences: a big increase in social, religious, and political tensions, with extremism and belligerence hitting major heights.

With that kind of extra stress coming at a critical calendar point this time around, we could see disruptive or contentious influences in the news that may make their presence felt in the markets, too.

Applying W. D. Gann’s Astro-Trading Principles

As modern astro-traders, we have a clear advantage over W. D. Gann.

We not only have the opportunity to stand on his shoulders, and follow his lead in market analysis and timing our trades – we also have a tool he didn’t even dream of:

Computers.

Today, thanks to astro-trading software like the Fibonacci Trader/Galactic Trader program, we can rapidly visualize astrological dynamics in the markets through planetary price lines and other tools.

It’s advantage that is reviewed in great detail in the live workshop recordings of the program on Profitable Trading with Planetary Timing.

It’s also a key part of our Model Portfolio success with astro-trading at FinancialCyclesWeekly.com.

Columbus Day and W. D. Gann

Columbus Day has become a neglected holiday.

That’s not entirely due to the fact that the first European to reach America was actually Lief Ericson, and not Christopher Columbus.

Columbus Day Isn’t Ericson Day

Maybe Ericson just needed a better press agent. But even with weak publicity Columbus Day gained wide acceptance and, at least in some cases, a unique status among American institutions.

But now Columbus Day is starting to fade. In some circles it’s seen as an insult to Native Americans, and Columbus himself is condemned for promoting racism, genocide, and the oppression of indigenous peoples.

The observance does, of course, provide an excuse for closing banks and government offices, and a three-day weekend is always a welcome event.

Columbus Day parades are still occasions for Italian-American pride, but attendance at those events isn’t quite what it used to be.

And then there are the Columbus Day Weekend sales. You’ll see them in some retail stores and at some online establishments as well, including my publishing company, Harmonic Research Associates, where you can save 50 percent on DVDs and DVD sets on astro-trading. (You can CLICK HERE to access the sale information – the discount requires Coupon Code COLUMBUS, which is valid through midnight on Tuesday.)

(While I’m at it, one other confession is in order here – I’ve personally succumbed to the “Columbus Day Sale” mentality and authorized a special gift for new Gold-Plus Elite subscribers at FinancialCyclesWeekly.com. That offer is good – you guessed it – through the end of the day on Columbus Day, October 12.)

You can find the details on the bonus gift – and a description of the benefits of Gold-Plus Elite membership – at https://cleostbc.leadpages.co/fcwbenefits1/.

Beyond Columbus Day Commercialism

But crass commercialism aside, Columbus Day is still worth our attention.

We have none other W. D. Gann setting the precedent.

W. D. Gann

Columbus Day was significant to W. D. Gann in his astrological analysis of market phenomena and geopolitical trends.

Gann was a pioneer in astro-trading, and his writings deserve intense study by all who want to master the astro-trading advantage. Although he rarely discussed astrology in public, his writings make it abundantly clear that he was not only knowledgeable about astrology, but also specifically relied upon it as a tool in producing his amazingly accurate market forecasts.

In his book The Tunnel Thru The Air, which is a strange allegorical tale teaching the basics of astrological market analysis, Gann writes that his main character Robert Gordon “had proved by study and comparing past cycles that a time or a seaon referred to in the Bible meant 360 days, 360 years, or 360 degrees;– a measure known and used by the astrologers in olden times and still understood and used by modern astrologers for measuring time. He knew that half a time meant 180 degrees, 180 days or years, because Ezekial had said that the Lord had appointed a day for a year. He figured that America began with the discovery by Columbus in 1492” and used that date for cycle calculations of current events. [The Tunnel Thru The Air, pp. 370-371]

An Unconventional Birthday

Aside from the harmonic connections and W. D. Gann’s clarity about the importance of progressions and directions, what’s remarkable about this passage is his assertion that “America began with the discovery by Columbus in 1492.”

While the October 12, 1492 date for Columbus’ sighting of land after his sea voyage was certainly well-known and widely accepted, in Gann’s time (and even today) it wasn’t commonly used by astrologers as the birthday of America.

Ebenezer Sibly

Ebenezer Sibly, the noted British astrologer.

In fact, the most frequently-used horoscope for America appeared in Ebenezer Sibly’s 1817 book, The Science of Astrology, which gained a strong following in spite of the fact that Sibly was writing in Great Britain, and thus viewing events in America from a distinctly English perspective.

Even so, Sibly’s book was particularly noteworthy because it featured an engraving showing the archangel Gabriel coming down from Heaven to present George Washington with the divinely-ordained chart for July 4, 1776.

It’s truly a remarkable illustration, not just because of its historical context and its presentation by someone who was alive at the time of the American Revolution, but also because of the distinct biases that Sibly’s horoscope for America itself reveals.

Washington is shown waiting for the important horoscope to arrive from its heavenly source, but the chart is set for London time, and not for local time in America.

Sibly USA Horoscope

The archangel Gabriel arrives to present the official U.S.A. birth chart to George Washington.

Not that Sibly’s horoscope for America has been universally accepted.

Astrologers love to quibble over timing minutia, and ever since the publication of Sibly’s book there have been endless arguments in the astrological community about the best rising sign for America’s birth chart, and even about the correct date to use for the Declaration of Independence.

But W. D. Gann was an independent and innovative thinker.

It wasn’t that he ignored the American Revolution and its associated horoscopes in his work. But he was quite clear about the importance of the horoscope for Columbus bumping into America on his way to India.

It became one of the keys to his market forecasts – and W. D. Gann’s precedent is certainly something for us to think about on Columbus Day.
